Foursquare Launches Local Update For Businesses

If you’re a Foursquare user then you may have noticed a few changes which have been rolling out over the past week. The social check-in service is now giving local businesses and merchants a free way to communicate with its 20 million users.

Located in the “Friends “ tab users will now be seeing updates from the places that they visit most, this can include new specials, deals, product info, pictures and general updates. These updates will also be shows when using the explore tab to find new places.

If you’re a regular user of the app then Foursquare already knows the places you like and visit the most, which could lead them towards targeted advertising similar to what Facebook does with the personal info that it uses to target people with ad’s.
