There is no denying that Social Media has made strides on the web. The immense number of people who now participate on social media websites has led to increased investment from SME and Enterprise companies to utilize many of these social platforms.  As we see a rapidly growing number of organizations include social media ideas and strategies in their goals I have created this article to share some of my favourite social media tools that can help your organization work smarter in this Web 2.0 world that we now live in.


TweetDeck is an Adobe AIR desktop application for Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn,Google Buzz, Foursquare, and MySpace ( yes MySpace ). This is my favourite Twitter application as it allows me to manage multiple Twitter accounts and allows me to track keywords and industry trends that I may be interested  in . The primary benefit of using TweetDeck is the ability to show you everything at once, in an organized column format something that may users of the Twitter web UI find confusing.

HootSuite’s is another social media dashboard, similar to Tweetdeck that allows teams to collaboratively schedule updates to Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, WordPress and other social networks via web, desktop or mobile platforms plus track keywords and industry trends. HootSuite’s major advantage over Tweetdeck is a well-presented and easy to view link tracking and analytics service however  you do need to ensure you shrink all your URLs with the Hootsuites own link shortener first.

Shareaholic is another great social media tool that comes with extensions for Firefox and Google Chrome. This allows users to share any webpage, anytime, with services you already know and love like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Mail, WordPress, and lots more. Shareaholic is fanatical about making sharing on the web better, faster, and easier, while making this activity more measurable for web publishers, advertisers, and mainstream businesses this is a must have if you want to share information with your customers.

Yammer is revolutionizing internal corporate communications by bringing together all of a company’s employees inside a private and secure enterprise social network. Although Yammer is as easy to use as consumer products like Facebook or Twitter, its enterprise-grade software is built from the ground up to drive business objectives.  Yammer enables users to communicate, collaborate, and share more easily and efficiently than ever before. It reduces the need for meetings, increases communication across silos, surfaces pockets of expertise and connects remote workers.

These are just some of the tools that many web design and online marketing companies recommend to clients who are implementing a social media strategy.
